ok, so my project for the vacation is to root some cactus. like i mentioned before, i pruned my hanging cactus. considering this wonderful, lovable plant was 75$, id really like to root more and not buy more. i read up on it. you have to cut the stalks and let them callous over for a few days. (of course, normally, you have to dip them in root powder and stick the cuttings in water, but since cactus don't like too much water...)after they are calloused over, im going to put them in a pot full of peat and sand (soil that drains well). in the pot dish, im going to put some water, so it soaks in from the bottom up. not too much, just enough for roots to want to grow toward it. im going to dip the cactus ends in that powder that encourages root growth, place the cuttings in indirect sunlight, and sing to them. im not sure how long it takes for the roots to develop. i want to call mommy, the green thumb plant expert, but it's 8:45am idaho time, so i have to wait.
